According to MLB Trade Rumors, via MLB.com’s Tracy Ringolsby, the Birds are exploring trades for Ubaldo Jimenez.

The Orioles have made Ubaldo Jimenez available in trades and have discussed the right-hander with several teams during the GM Meetings, MLB.com’s Tracy Ringolsby reports.

Needless to say, the Orioles would be selling low on Jimenez. Suitors could be hard to find given the three years and $38.75MM remaining on the righty’s contract, though the O’s could eat some money in a trade or look to swap Jimenez for another unfavorable contract.

While a certain segment of the fan base will get quite excited at this news, I find myself a bit…nonplussed. While Ubaldo was indeed very bad in 2014, I’m interested to see what he can do with a full offseason to work with Dave Wallace and try to correct his control issues. I don’t love the idea of the Orioles eating any money from the $38.75M that Jimenez is still due over the next three years, nor do I like the idea of trading him for another bad contract (i.e. Ryan Howard).

Throw in that selling low is usually a losing proposition, and this rumor seems like nothing to get our hopes up about.

I’d be shocked if the O’s can find a trade partner for Jimenez, but I suppose anything can happen. Get pumped about this rumor, if that’s what floats your boat.
